Newport, Pembrokeshire is certainly a pretty town and well worth a visit in its own right. But what we enjoyed most during our visit was using Newport as the starting point for another great hike along the Welsh Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
We enjoyed our stay at the Cnapan Hotel and restaurant in Wales during our 2016 Grand Tour. Judy and Mike Cooper are superb hosts, while Judy is also the chef for Cnapan’s acclaimed restaurant. Sadly, they are no longer serving dinner on a regular basis. But Newport is a nice place to visit and the Cnapan is a nice place to stay while you’re there.
Our meal at The Golden Lion was one of the best pub experiences of the entire MagoGuide 2016 Grand Tour.
St. Davids is a holiday beach town located just inland of the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast Path. It has some interesting sites, markets, and restaurants. But one doesn’t need to spend more than a week here.
We voted this rental in St. Davids, Wales, one of the best ever. Rent from Matthew James for up to week of walking on one of the greatest coastal trails in the world.
We enjoyed Cwtch in St. Davids, Wales, but it didn’t meet our expectations. Service was good but harried. Portions were huge. Most dishes needed more seasoning.
For those readers who have yet to encounter a one rostra rating, it means that you would be better off sleeping in a Walmart parking lot and dining on traffic cones boiled in used crank case oil than staying at The Grove Country Hotel and Restaurant in Narbeth Wales. I said that it was all my fault. Patti didn’t disagree.
We enjoyed our stay in Abergavenny, Wales, but we have to admit that it wasn’t the highlight of the trip we anticipated. Neither the Swanmeadow Holiday Cottages at Pantygoitre Farm nor Abergavenny itself lived up to our expectations.
The Hardwick was the best restaurant on the European part of MagoGuide’s 2016 Grand Tour. This is one of those places where an accomplished chef, Steven Terry, “downshifts” and everybody wins.
For an introduction to Abergavenny, Wales, you could do a lot worse than the Cripple Creek Inn. Morgan declared the battered hake with chips and peas some of the best fried fish and chips that he had ever eaten.
